Customs and Border Protection has made a significant seizure of a controlled substance. The substance, known as khat, is a powerful stimulant. It is also referred to by other names. A large quantity, over 4,000 pounds, was seized. This has a value of around $500,000.

The seizures were made at an airport. Khat was found in cargo shipments and concealed in suitcases. Various countries were the origin of these shipments.
